Fit a dial indicator in the number 1 cylinder to inspect the piston at TDC, then take out the camshaft retainer/thrust plate from the rear of the right cylinder head, next remove the right cylinder head cover and lastly remove the right rocker arm assembly. Lift the tensioner and belt off the timing belt with the rear camshaft advanced about 3 1/2 inches to get to the bolt and gear, safely pushing away from the journals of the cams and cylinder head. Place a 36 mm (1 7/16 in.) box end wrench over the camshaft sprockets, unbolt the retainer and unscrew and set aside the bolt and washer on the back of the engine, noting the lengths listed in the manual. After that, take out the camshaft sprockets.
