Before replacing the piston rings, measure how much space is between them and the bore of the cylinder and the piston. Oil ring expander goes in first, then the lower oil ring side rail, the upper oil ring side rail, the No. 2 intermediate piston ring and the No. 1 upper piston ring. First, place the oil ring expander so that its one end sits between the piston ring groove and the oil ring expander, grip it firmly and press down until the side rail is in place without using a piston ring expander. Then, put on the lower side rail first and follow it up with the upper side rail, seeing that the No. 2 piston ring's dot is facing the top of the piston since the No. 1 and No. 2 piston rings have different cross sections. First, position the No. 2 piston ring and then the No. 1 piston ring using a ring expander. With oil control in mind, set up the oil ring expander gap, place the piston side rails, piston rings #2 and #1 as directed.
