Chrysler Cirrus automobiles have a Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) which plays a significant role of providing the engine with correct proportion of air and fuel for combustion process. This sensor works under the principle of sending a signal to the fuel injection system so that it may vary the fuel quantity depending on the power requirement of the engine. The Chrysler Cirrus Throttle Position Sensor is always on and ready to change the speed to keep the performance of the vehicle full throttle with a constant acceleration, speed and rate of decreasing speed. In its production period, Chrysler Cirrus has fitted its models, with different Throttle Position Sensors namely the standard and latest technologies' potentiometric and non-contact sensors, respectively. The older potentiometric style sensors work mechanically whereby resistance change is measured to the change in the throttle position. However, in the studied newer models of the Chrysler Cirrus, non-contact sensors are used that are based on the Hall-effect, inductive, or magnetoresistive effects. Improved Throttle Position Sensors that aim at improving vehicle performance as a result of the detection of varying positions of the throttle through magnetic field ind lodement and not mechanical contact. If a Throttle Position Sensor starts to go, then it can cause such problems as reduction in fuel economy or restriction of power. Consequently for the long term durability and performance of the Chrysler Cirrus, Throttle Position Sensor needs to be correctly installed and if possible replaced at the soonest time that it shows indication of failure.

Chrysler Cirrus Throttle Position Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Throttle Position Sensor on Chrysler Cirrus?
    A:
Start the maintenance on the throttle position sensor by taking out the negative battery cable and the throttle body. Unplug the idle air control motor and throttle position sensor electrical connectors, remove the screws holding the motor to the throttle body and then take out the sensor. Slide the throttle shaft of the throttle body into the throttle position sensor socket, making sure the shaft's end reaches the two small tabs on the sensor. An indexed throttle position sensor should rotate against the thumb rest slightly clockwise to ensure its mounting holes align with those in the throttle body and it should be able to turn to its spot in the throttle body with a bit of tension. Should it be hard to rotate, turn the dial around and put it back with the throttle shaft in the other position. Tighten both of the mounting screws to a torque of 5.3 Nm or 45 in. lbs. Check after installation that the throttle plate is closed; if not, turn the throttle position sensor around to be placed over the other side of the tabs on the throttle body. Pull the electrical connectors out of the idle air control motor and throttle position sensor again, then place the throttle body back inside and finally attach the negative battery cable.
