Since the Chrysler Cirrus cars Glen found that the Timing Belt is used to coordinate the operation of the crankshaft and the camshaft, there is proper opening and closing of the engine valves. This synchronization is very important to the performance of the engine especially in relation to the piston movement and the opening and closing of the valves. The Timing Belt: usually rubber manufactured and fortified with fibers costumes this part of the vehicle since it is cheaper to manufacture than the older gear system, it produces lesser noise and experiences less friction. There are many styles of Chrysler Cirrus Timing Belts have been used throughout the years: Improvements have had curved teeth that are resonant and made the belt stronger in most models. The Timing Belt needs to be inspected often and replaced when necessary because if not done, it can result to extensive engine damage particularly if the engine is an interference engine. Further, when there is a need for the Timing Belt replacement it is recommended that other components such as automatic tensioners and idler pulleys should also be replaced to enhance the performance of the engine.

Chrysler Cirrus Timing Belt Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service a Timing Belt on Chrysler Cirrus?
    A:
BEGIN with the timing belt service by using a hoist to lift the car, then removing its right front wheel and removing the right inner splash shield and all the accessory Drive Belts. First, let go of the Crankshaft damper bolt and damper and remove the idler pulley from the generator belt at the next step. Remove the bolts on the lower timing belt cover, disconnect it and drop the vehicle to reach and remove its upper belt cover. Loosen and remove the right Engine Mount and support bracket, so that the crankshaft and Camshaft marks are aligned during rotation. Avoid rotating the engine using the camshaft after the timing belt is taken out since this can wreck the valve components. Turn the crankshaft all the way until the oil pump housing TDC mark and the crankshaft sprocket TDC mark are side by side. Insert a 6 mm Allen wrench into the tensioner on the belt and before turning it, put a 1/8" or 3 mm Allen wrench into the hole at the front of the tensioner. While turning the tensioner clockwise, hold in the 1/8" or 3 mm Allen wrench and pushing on it slightly. As soon as it slides in the locking hole, remove the timing belt. If the timing belt was damaged because it was tracked incorrectly, you need to change the belt tensioner assembly. When placing the crankshaft sprocket, aim it toward the arrow on the oil pump housing and make sure the exhaust camshaft sprocket is a 1/2 notch below the intake one so the two arrows point upward. Put the timing belt on starting with the crankshaft, then go around the water pump's sprocket, followed by the idler's pulley, then the camshaft sprockets, finely finishing at the tensioner. Gently nudge the exhaust camshaft sprocket counterclockwise until the marks fit together and then pull out the Allen wrench or pull pin from the belt tensioner. With the timing belt on and the tensioner removed, turn the crankshaft twice while checking if the TDC marks and camshaft marks are lined up. Then, fit the engine mount and support, put the timing belt covers together with bolts at 4.5 Nm (40 in. lb.), fit the generator belt idler pulley by tightening its bolt to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.), put back the crankshaft damper, the accessory belts, the right inner splash shield and the right front wheel.
