Chrysler Cirrus Timing Belt Tensioner Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Timing Belt Tensioner on Chrysler Cirrus?
    A:
Out of the Timing Belt and the timing belt idler pulley first, before you work on the tensioner. Hang onto the camshaft sprocket with Special Tool 6847 as you take out the bolt until both cam sprockets are gone. After that, loosen the rear timing belt cover fasteners and lift off the cover from the engine. Withdraw the bolt that joins the timing belt tensioner assembly to the engine, then pluck out the tensioner as a whole. When installing, set the timing belt tensioner in place against the engine and only fix the lower mounting bolt loosely. Place an M10 engine bracket mounting bolt 5 to 7 times into the tensioner's upper bracket, then secure it with a temporary supports bolt in the lower bracket. Screw down the tensioner's lower mounting bolt to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.) and then unscrew the upper bolt for alignment. Assemble the rear timing belt cover, fasteners and install the timing belt idler pulley, tightening its bolt to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.). After that, install the camshaft sprockets while holding them with Special Tool 6847 and torque the bolts to 101 Nm (75 ft. lbs.), before fitting the timing belt.
