Remove the instrument panel from the car while taking care to leave some connections attached. Pop open the hood and detach the cable from the negative pole of the battery in the remote. Unscrew the four screws holding the glove box door to the instrument panel and pull off the door. After that, take off the right-hand instrument panel endcap. When you have a center console, unscrew the set screw on the gearshift, remove the gearshift handle, the console shifter bezel and then pull off the right console side trim panel. Release five screws holding the glove box, remove the left and right A-pillar trim molding, the left instrument panel endcap and the left lower instrument panel trim cover, unplug the hood release cable and car decklid electrical connector and set the panel aside. Eliminate the left knee blocker and the instrument panel center bezel, detach the control unit's and the traction control switch's electrical connectors for the heater - a/c system. If you have a console, take off the left instrument panel side cover; if not, take off the center lower small bin by the pedals. Undo the two middle instrument panel lower attaching nuts, detach the left side air ducts and disconnect the brake switch's electric connector. Remove the screw from the bulkhead connector mount and keep the connector attached, then separate the electrical wires from the Occupant Restraint Controller and remove the two ground eyelets from the center instrument panel on the left side of the floor tunnel. Pull down the steering column after taking out its four nuts, then disconnect the three lower and three upper bolts, unplug the instrument panel harness and the radio antenna connector from the body. First, detach the three lower and three upper bolts from the right instrument panel and pull the panel back, so it rests on the passenger seat. Remove the four duct screws from the right demister duct and the two from the right distribution duct assembly. Take out the yellow wire harness connector from the air bag module assembly and the three Christmas tree fasteners. Unclip the right and left pencil strut to the Passenger air bag screws, disconnect the instrument panel wiring harness from the air bag reinforcement bracket and remove the four 10 mm hex head screws from the deployment door reinforcement. Remove five screws attaching the passenger air bag module to the retainer and remove the air bag module from the retainer. Bring out four screws from the bracket on the existing air bag unit. As part of installation, screw the reinforcement bracket onto the air bag module and tighten it to 20 in.lbs. If a deployed module is being picked up, it's important to use rubber gloves, goggles and a long-sleeved shirt. Unhook the negative
Battery Cable, remove the passenger air bag, then place it into the panel where you can, using tape to hold the ripped instrument panel pad on the deployed air bag. Lift out the instrument panel and pad assembly and then take off the Passenger air bag Module. Install new undamaged parts from the instrument panel onto the vehicle, tightening each screw to 20 in.lbs. To install the Passenger air bag Module, use the removal steps in reverse and to install the instrument panel, use the steps mentioned in reverse. For your safety, do not attach the battery negative cable to the remote terminal.
