To do the service and repair work on the front wheel hub and bearing, lift the car on the front, then take off the front wheel and its tire to start. Examine the front
Brake Caliper and rotor for any problems or wear before coming to the front wheel hub dust cap. Unscrew the hub nut bolt, remove the hub nut (3) and retrieve the tapered roller bearing (2) before you can pull off the front wheel hub (1) from the spindle. The next thing to do is unbolt (1) the front dust shield, check it and replace it if required, since visible discoloration may mean that the bearings are able to move too much. It is very important to change the tapered roller bearing and both races as a set. If the spindle shows signs of wear on the bearing seats or the contact surface of the radial seal ring, replace it as directed. Assess the threaded bores and rotor teeth for damage on the front wheel hub (1), check that the tapered roller bearing (2) is smooth and not discolored, make sure both bearing races (in the hub) and the radial seal ring fit the specifications and ensure that the roller cage and tapered roller ends are also undamaged. Before you install the front wheel hub, grease the hub (1), coat the radial seal ring, pack grease between the tapered roller bearing and the sealing lip and fit the hub onto the spindle so the inner tapered roller bearing (2) and the radial seal ring are installed first. Soften the locking nut (2) enough to let you set the rotor (5) well, then put in the front disc brake rotor (1) and caliper (6). Reinsert the dust cap (4), adjust the wheel bearing's end play and before driving, use the brake pedal a number of times to ensure the brakes are fully charged. After that, place the wheel and tire on the car.
