Chrysler LHS Brake Booster Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Maintain a Brake Booster on Chrysler LHS?
    A:
The first step is to put a cable isolator on the ground stud for the right strut tower and then to remove the ground cable from the battery. After that, open up both Wiper Arms to reveal the nuts underneath and twist them until the wiper arms are no longer attached and can be taken away. Remove the covers over the wiper module and from the cowl, after that remove the 8 bolts holding the reinforcement to the strut towers and the 1 bolt connecting the wiper module to the reinforcement and then pull out the reinforcement. Detach the wire going to the sensor from the brake fluid reservoir on the master cylinder's right side and remove the 2 bolts keeping the master cylinder to the vacuum booster. Come out part of the brake line from the vacuum booster and slide it off, set the master cylinder on the cover of the left engine cylinder head. Do not take the check valve out, just unplug it from the vacuum hose. Under the instrument panel, loosen the retainer clip gripping the pedal with a small screwdriver. Throw away the old clip and be ready to replace it with a new one. Under the dash, near the steering column and pedal bracket, remove the four nuts screwed onto the vacuum booster. Turn the windshield wiper motor crank lever to 12 o'clock and then slide the vacuum booster out of the dash dashboard.. Assembling the vacuum booster should never be done as service is provided to the complete system only. Put the vacuum booster on the dash panel and turn each of the 4 nuts to 29 Nm (250 inch lbs.) of torque. Grease the section of the brake pedal pin that contacts the brake shoe with lubriplate or its equivalent, attach the pipe going to the vacuum booster to the brake pedal pin and fit a new retainer clip. First, move your wiring harness up so it sits over the studs in front of the booster feather before installing the master cylinder. Carefully secure the master cylinder to the vacuum booster, making sure the routing bracket is fitted to the right stud. Secure and fasten the 2 mounting nuts to 29 Nm (250 inch lbs.) torque. Plug in the brake fluid level sensor connector and fit all vacuum hoses on the vacuum booster check valve. Check to make sure the stop light switches work, install the wiper module reinforcement and use the 8 bolts plus one for the wiper module to keep it in place. Set the covers over the wiper assembly and cowl, then attach and tighten the screws. Attach the battery ground wire to the shock tower's ground stud, push the windshield wipers forward to park them, fix the wiper arms to their pivots and tighten the nuts while putting the end caps in place. The operating system of the brake booster as well as the entire brake system ought to be checked.
