Before you service a catalytic converter, ensure the exhaust system has cooled because of excessive temperatures. Raise your vehicle on a hoist and take out the exhaust system before starting. Take out the nuts that bind the right pipe to the transaxle bracket and the clamp that holds the extension pipe in place on that side, then remove the right side converter extension pipe. Lower the vehicle and use the air cleaner assembly to pull out the air inlet hose. For the 3.2/3.5L engine, unmount the SRV vacuum reservoir and control valve from the right rear side of the engine. Unplug the connector from the lower
Oxygen Sensor and remove the sensor from the converter. Carefully remove and delete the V-Band clamp at the
Exhaust Manifold, since it can't be reused. Pull the converter out from where it is in the engine compartment. Place a new V-Band clamp onto the exhaust manifold outlet and make sure you don't tighten the T-bolt for installation. Lay in the converter and make sure it fastens onto the manifold. Use the V-Band clamp to tighten the connection if the manifold outlet does not fit and latch the T-bolt when done. Lift the vehicle for the second time and secure the right side converter extension pipe so it's close to the cat but without tightening the clamp. Put the suspension down, ensure the tires are correctly positioned and spaced and then secure the V-Band clamp at 11 Nm (100 inch lbs.). Place the downstream oxygen sensor and connect the electrical plug, then reattach all parts of the SRV vacuum reservoir and control valve assembly for the 3.2/3.5L engine. After that, return the air cleaner assembly with the air inlet hose. Raise the car again, ensure both extension pipe clamp and nut are tightened to the motor at 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs. and 47 Nm (35 ft lbs.), lower the vehicle and install the exhaust system. At the exhaust manifold joint, remove the V-Band clamp attached to the left catalytic converter, so it is not put back. Support the vehicle from underneath and unfasten the exhaust, next remove the sensor's electrical plug and pull the sensor from the converter pipe. Remove the nut that holds the left pipe to the transaxle bracket, ensuring you don't damage the driveshaft boot, then pull the converter down from below the vehicle. Place the converter correctly, add a new V-Band clamp and tighten it all to 11 Nm (100 inch lbs.). Install the nut attaching the pipe to the bracket so the torque reaches 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.), then place the downstream oxygen sensor and connect the electrical connection, put the exhaust system back in place and drop the car.
