Chrysler LHS Evaporator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Replace an Evaporator Core on Chrysler LHS?
    A:
To replace the core in the evaporator, unplug the air bag system by taking out the negative Battery Cable from the remote battery post and then wait two minutes for everything to discharge in the air bag system. Get rid of the HVAC housing from the vehicle and replace the recirculation door actuator, recirculation door and housing one by one. Loose the upper HVAC housing screws, find the evaporator probe access plate in the center of the housing, pry up on the tab, turn the plate counterclockwise and press it into the HVAC unit. Will the EVAP out by undoing the housing and lifting it up from the lower half. Installation requires placing the evaporator probe into the new evaporator and making sure its location is the same as the previous one, before putting the whole unit into the lower HVAC housing. Put the access plate inside the HVAC housing and turn it clockwise by one-quarter turn so the locking tab snaps into the detent. Turn the plate counterclockwise by the same amount to help the locking tab sit properly. Next, use the fasteners to assemble the top half on the lower half by tightening them to 20 in. lbs. Repeat this for the recirculation door, along with its housing. Then, fit the HVAC housing back onto the vehicle, so all connections are tight and without leaks, because kinks or bends in the plumbing can decrease the air conditioning system's efficiency.
