Before removing the steering wheel, line the front wheels forward and turn the steering wheel one full turn to the right (clockwise) using the ignition cylinder lock. First, take the negative battery cable remote terminal from the remote battery post. Wait for two minutes to allow the reserve capacitor to drain before you remove the non-deployed module. Unplug the speed control switches and remove all associated connectors and after that detach the bolts fastening the
Air Bag module to the front of the steering wheel. After lifting the module, take out the air bag and horn connectors before removing the steering wheel retaining nut. Insert the clamping end of your steering wheel puller C-3428B into the space around the mount, then carefully push the wires through the opening in the steering wheel armature. Before the installation, turn the steering wheel to the right so it's off-center by one-half turn, lock the column with the ignition and ensure the turn signal stalk is in the neutral position. Pass all wires through the wide gap in the hub area of the wheel and position the steering wheel so the flats in the hub match with the
Clock Spring and nothing gets caught by the leads. Secure the retaining nut after torqueing it to 61 N.m (45 ft.lbs.) and then push both speed control wires through the slots behind the steering wheel. Attach the horn lead wire and the air bag lead wire to the air bag module, put in the air bag module and tighten the bolts until they reach 7 to 9 N.m (65 to 85 in.lbs.). Pass the speed control wires to the switches and place the switches, fitting the screws at a torque between 1.4 and 2.0 N.m (12 to 18 in.lbs.). Next, do not link the negative cable on the battery to the vehicle's remote terminal.
