For service or repair of the power steering line or hose, begin by taking off the battery ground cable, plugging it into a cable isolator and fastening it to the shock tower ground stud. In front, make sure the car is straight and then place the car onto a frame contact hoist until the tires clear the floor. Caps should be taken off from both
Wiper Arms. After that, start to remove the nuts and upper wiper arms by slowly pulling them up and back. Pop open the wiper module cover and cover for the cowl, then take out the eight bolts that hold the reinforcement to the strut towers and the single bolt that fastens the wiper module to the reinforcement. After that, remove the in-line resonator and inlet hose from the
Throttle Body and take off the air hose from the housing lid of the air cleaner. Tighten a
Steering Wheel clamp to immobilize the wheel and then leave out the retaining pin and bolts on the end of the steering shaft, separating the shafts. To remove the tie rods, bend back the retaining tabs on the tie rod to steering gear mounting plate, remove the bolts, remove the mounting plate and its washers and lay them on the transaxle bell housing. Use a siphon pump inside the reservoir to save the fluid in order to cause less spilling while removing the hoses. Release the two nuts holding the master cylinder to the vacuum booster and then set it upstanding on the left side valve cover. Pull the vacuum hose off the vacuum booster and remove both the fluid pressure and return hoses from the steering gear. Detach the two left side steering gear bolts from the crossmember and the two bolts for the right steering gear mounting bracket. Apply some pressure to the steering wheel in order to drain the system, then remove the screws securing the hoses to the frame rail on the left. On the 300M, take out the front fascia to get access to the
Power Steering Cooler and then disconnect the return tube. Let any extra fluid drain out of the cooler. Raise the vehicle and take off the power steering fluid hoses from the top back of the engine area. While installing the power steering hoses, do the opposite of the removal procedure, but be sure the return hose is attached to the power steering fluid cooler with the clamp after the upset bead. Reattach the front fascia from the 300M, lower the vehicle until its tires are just clear of the ground and fasten the power steering hoses to the left hand side frame rail so they do not move. Correct the position of the steering gear with the intermediate shaft, loosely fit the bolts on the left side and then secure the right side mounting bracket bolts to 58 Nm (43 ft. lbs.) and the left bolts to that same value. Link up the pressure and return hoses on the steering gear and tighten the hose tube nuts to a torque of 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.). Make sure the tie rod spacer block fits correctly before you attach the tie rod bolts and washers to it. Tighten those bolts to 100 Nm (74 ft. lbs.) and bend the retaining plate tabs over the bolt heads after attaching them. Attach the vacuum hose from the booster to the intake manifold vacuum port and bind it securely with a clamp. Screw on the master cylinder to the vacuum booster, then tighten two nuts to 28 Nm (250 inch lbs.) to lock it in place. Remove the clamp from the steering wheel, put the intermediate shaft onto the steering column shaft, attach it with the pinch bolt and tighten the pinch bolt to 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.) Replace the cowl reinforcement with eight bolts and the bolt for the wiper module and then link the in-line resonator and inlet hose. Replace the covers on top of the wiper module and cowl, secure each with screws and put back the wiper arms, tightening the attaching nuts and using caps for all the nuts. After that, attach the battery ground cable to the shock tower's ground stud and use the indicated Fluid or its equal when you fill the reservoir. Subsequently, complete the Power Steering Pump Initial Operation task, lower the car and adjust the front toe if you need to.
