  The first step after refacing valves and valve seats is to inspect the remaining margin. Using the accurate size valve guide pilot is essential during valve seat refacing to obtain a perfect and complete result. Place a dial indicator on top of the valve seat and observe that the runout reading is no greater than 0.051 mm (0.002 in.). Apply Prussian blue to the valve seat to see if the valve makes contact, carefully coat the valve seat, replace the valve and turn it with little pressure. If blue marks appear at the center of the valve face, connection is good. After making the transfer, if the carbon moves toward the top edge, lower the seating with a 15-degree stone; if the transfer is to the bottom edge, raise the seating with a 65-degree stone. Replacing the cylinder head becomes necessary if either angle or seat width is lost, regardless of how much heat or wear the valve seat body can endure. The width of intake seats needs to be between 0.75 and 1.25 mm (0.0296 - 0.0493 in.); exhaust seats should be between 1.25 and 1.75 mm (0.049 - 0.069 in.). Slip some clean oil onto the valve stems and gently place them into the inner cylinder head space. If the valves or seats have been refaced, make certain the valve tip does not stand higher than 43.65 mm (1.7185 in.) for intake and 45.98 mm (1.8102 in.) for exhaust, measured from the cylinder head surface to the top of the valve stem. Place the valve assembly with seals over all the valve stems, making sure the garter spring is still below the main rubber seal on top. Make sure the end of the valve spring with the color matches the top of the operations manual, then add the valve retainer to the spring seat. Mechanically attach valve spring compressor C-3422-D and adapter 6526 to compress the valve springs, attach locks and then release the tool after use. If you replace valve anchor seats, measure the spring height, top to bottom, in the head counterbore; if it is greater than 38.75 mm (1.5256 in.), use a 0.762 mm (0.030 in.) spacer.
