The Ball Joint found in Chrysler PT Cruiser cars is used to facilitate suspension movement and steering feedback. These components link the control arms to the steering knuckles and enable the former to rotate freely in two planes but not to translate. Chrysler PT Cruiser Ball Joints can either be load bearing or non-load bearing where a load bearing ball joint will support the weight of the car while a non-load bearing ball joint will only go on keeping the component in order and without any support. Worn ball joints show signs such as noise, uneven wear of the tires, alignment problem, and steering problem. It is required to replace wear indicators when they appear to be worn out. Performance ball joints, also come with adjustment, depending on the change in suspension geometry, which accompanies the wear and tear of other vehicle parts. They have, also, very hard polyurethane boots to reduce wear and tear. Both require constant check up's and inspections to make sure that the roads are safe for driving.

Chrysler PT Cruiser Ball Joint Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Properly Install a Ball Joint and Its Sealing Boot on Chrysler PT Cruiser?
    A:
Before introducing the ball joint, wipe off any previous, used grease from the stem. The lip on the outer edge of the sealing boot should be pushed up and out so heat from the Control Arm does not impact the boot. Slide the seal boot in place over the ball joint stud, putting the lip with the writing at the top. Put one end of the boot seal over the ball joint by hand. Push the top of the Position Installer 1, Special Tool 6758, against the outer part of the sealing boot until it is pressed down against the top of Lower Control Arm 3. Change the ball joint's original grease fitting for a more common zirc type, keeping the headless grease fitting to put back in place once needed. You should grease the ball joint before screwing in the knuckle, so there is no damage to the seal during venting; applying grease after knuckle installation might cause problems. Using a hand pump grease gun, fill the seal boot with Mopar Multi-Mileage Lube or something similar, until the grease appears past the ball joint stem, then wipe away any extra grease. Then, take off the regular zirc-type grease fitting and replace it with the empty grease fitting on the ball joint, to make sure it can't be lubricated in the future before attaching the knuckle.
