The Ball Joint in Chrysler Sebring vehicles got used since 1995 as the front suspension system where it connects the control arms to the steering knuckle. This connection gives the ability to pivot movement and therefore make the car to be safe and convenient to drive. It looks like a ball and socket joint of a human body which allows flexibility and ability to adjust according to the surface of the road. Chrysler Sebring Ball joints are mainly made of steel and contain a bearing stud and socket and are covered with rubber like material boot to avoid collection of dirt. As for the OEM parts they consist of auto parts made by Chrysler or other companies working with Chrysler whereas automotive parts are also produced but can be of the same quality and effectiveness as OEM ones. In recent models, Sebring has applied the modern sealed ball joints that does not need constant greasing and leading to enhanced handling and stability of the car. In particular, ball joints wear out over time and require inspection, as well as timely replacement as it can greatly affect your Chrysler Sebring's control, responsiveness and safety.

Chrysler Sebring Ball Joint Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove the Front Lower Ball Joint on Chrysler Sebring?
    A:
Before you remove the front lower ball joint, raise your vehicle, take off the wheel nuts and take out the tire and wheel assembly. While someone else presses the brake, unthread the hub nut from the axle half shaft. After that, take out the front brake rotor. Break the clip fastening the sensor cable to the knuckle and take out the screw attaching the sensor head, then get the sensor head off the knuckle. Separate the nut holding the lower ball joint to the lower Control Arm and then use Special Tool 9360 to free the ball joint without lifting the knuckle now. Remove the knuckle from the lower control arm, while holding the half shaft to stop the C/V joint from opening up. Unscrew the knuckle from the outer C/V joint splines on the axle half shaft, holding the shaft with support. Using the access on the knuckle, tap the ends of the snap-ring with a drift punch to pull it away from the ball joint. On Remover/Installer, Special Tool 8441-1, place Remover, Special Tool 9964-3, Remover, Special Tool 9964-4 and Special Tool 9964-1 over the joint, then tighten them by hand using the screw-drive. Keep the hand-tools on and tighten the screw-drive to push the ball joint from the knuckle, then back off the screw-drive and remove everything.
  • Q: Can a Ball Joint Seal Boot Be Replaced Only If Damaged During Service on Chrysler Sebring?
    A:
Only when the seal boot is damaged during a service job can it be replaced; if it is driven with a damaged boot, the ball joint might get contaminated, so the whole lower Control Arm must be replaced to protect it from overuse. The lower control arm ball joint does not need additional lubrication; if it looks dry, the whole lower control arm should be replaced. Be sure to lubricate the replaced ball joint seal only with the suggested material included in the Mopar Ball Joint Seal service kit. Before you remove the old grease, rub grease from the seal kit over the static and movable parts of the ball joint stud and seal, making sure no grease touches the boot you will install. Carefully slide the ball joint seal boot with its upper seal ring along the tapered ball joint stud into position in the seal groove of the lower control arm. Place the boot seal in the retaining groove and remove air from the space without pushing grease into it. Put the Retaining Ring Installer, Special Tool, 6875-1 into the retaining ring groove so their edges are level. Put the seal boot retaining ring on the installer, followed by sliding the expandable collar over the tapered section of the special tool. Depress the seal retaining-ring down the specialist cone until it fits into the seal boot's retaining ring groove. Carefully pick up the installer from the seal boot so no harm comes to it. After that, ensure the retaining ring is fully in the seal boot groove, that the ends are not bent and that the upper sealing ring is in place before fitting the control arm back onto the vehicle.
