Before servicing the front brake pads, first lift the car and take off the front wheel and tire assemblies. Start from one place, take out the clip opposite the caliper, remove the two guide pin bolts and the caliper will separate from the adapter and
Brake Disc. Wrap the caliper with wire or a thin cord so the brake hose won't suffer any damage. Take out the brake shoe on top of the caliper, then pull the lower brake shoe enough so it comes loose. Follow the same steps on the other part of the paper. When servicing TRW brakes, raise the car, remove the front tire and wheel and separate the two
Brake Caliper guide pin bolts. Take the disc brake caliper out to the side, so it doesn't pull on the brake hose too much and slide out the brake shoes from the adapter. Peforming tasks like sanding or grinding on disc brake shoes should only be done with an enclosed device capturing dust, preferably using a gentle mist and damp fabric on other parts and always throwing away any asbestos found in these shoes. Make sure none of the brake shoes is worn out too much or unevenly. Measure the thickness and replace the front ones at about 5/16 inch and the rear ones at around 9/32 inch. Be sure to change out both shoes for both inboard and outboard calipers if you need to, also on the opposite side. For use with Continental Teves brakes, put the caliper piston retracted, remove the protective covering from the noise suppression gasket, install the fresh inboard shoe, add lubricant to the adapter abutments and fit the outboard shoe over the adapter. Put the caliper above the rotor and adapter, use 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.) of torque to tighten the guide pin bolts and fit the new spring and caps under the caliper. Follow the same steps on the other side and then, install the wheel and tire assemblies again, ensuring the nuts are tightened to that torque rating of 135 Nm. Set the brake shoes by lowering the vehicle, pushing on the brake and testing the brakes afterward with a road test. For TRW brakes, fit the brake shoes into the adapter anti-rattle clips, remove air from the caliper piston, set the caliper over the shoes, align the guide pins, tighten these bolts to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.), fit the tire and wheel assembly, lower the vehicle, pump the brake pedal, check the fluid level and road test the car.
