To service engine timing tensioner, remove engine timing cover first. For your information, tensioner does not fall apart on the removal. Then, remove the timing chain tensioner retaining bolts and after that remove the tensioner (5).

How to Install a Timing Chain Tensioner on Dodge Avenger?

Before mounting the engine timing tensioner, press the ratchet down and at the same time press in on the tensioner with your finger. Pull the cover off the tensioner and insert Tensioner Pin 8514 into the provided spot so that the slack on the timing chain is maintained when the tensioner plunger is retracted. Then, put in the timing chain tensioner and turn the bolts to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.). Following the installation of the tensioner, take out Tensioner Pin 8514 and put on the engine timing cover.
