The Brake Booster in Dodge Challenger cars is one of those parts that are minute but can significantly improve the performance of the car by easing the operation of the brake pedal. This device mainly employs negative pressure, which means that it takes advantage of a vacuum produced by the engine to increase pressure applied to the brake pedal with a view of enhancing the braking systems. To do that, the various components of the Dodge Challenger models may vary depending on the type of Brake Booster it comes with, namely the Vacuum Brake Boosters and Hydraulic Brake Boosters. In vacuum brake booster, the engine vacuum is used whereas in hydraulic boosters pressure from power steering pump is used. The main difference between them is the functional implementation where vacuum boosters are totally reliant on the state of the engine. However, the Brake Booster plays a vital role in delivering good and reliable braking standards on Dodge Challenger cars.

Dodge Challenger Brake Booster Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Install a Brake Booster on Dodge Challenger?
    A:
For the power brake booster to work properly, make sure a NEW booster seal covers the push rod and studs on its backside before installing. Mount the NEW booster seal over the push rod and on each mounting stud. After that, pass the power brake booster through the gap between the cross-brace and windshield and attach the booster push rod and the mounting studs to the dash board. All four booster mounting nuts should be tightened as specified so that no vacuum leaks occur; ensure you tighten each mounting nut to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.). Slide the push rod for the booster onto the brake pedal pin and hold it in place by adding a NEW retaining clip. Adjust the brake lamp switch, then link the vacuum hose to the check valve that's on the front of the boost-be sure not to take off the check valve. Fix the master cylinder and the windshield wiper module in place. After that, attach the negative Battery Cable and follow instructions to fill and bleed the brakes.
  • Q: How to Remove a Brake Booster on Dodge Challenger?
    A:
The first step to taking out the power brake booster is to move the seat fully to the rear and take off the negative Battery Cable. After that, remove the Windshield wiper module and the master cylinder. Take out the vacuum hose from the check valve, allowing the check valve to stay attached to the side of the booster. After removing the brake lamp switch, insert a small screwdriver between the center tang and the retaining clip, rotate the clip and move it over the end of the brake pedal pin so you can pull it off. During the reassembly, throw out the old retaining clip and fit a new one. Draw the booster push rod from the brake pedal pin, remove the four bolts holding the booster to the dash panel and then slide the booster out through the gap between the cross-brace and windshield.
