Dodge Challenger Valve Body Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Safely Remove the Valve Body from a Transmission on Dodge Challenger?
    A:
Remove the valve body by first taking out the pins connecting the transmission range sensor and the solenoid/pressure switch assembly. If the vehicle comes with the line, detach the variable line pressure connector. Then, separate the Shift Cable from the shift lever at the transmission and rotate the manual shift lever clockwise past the L position and remove the manual shift lever from its shaft. One of the oil pan bolts leaves the factory with a sealing patch on it, meaning you should keep it separate. Undo all the transmission pan bolts and next remove the transmission oil pan. Following that, take out the Oil Filter from the valve body which is retained by two screws. Lower the saw under the outboard motor and remove all bolts connecting the valve body to the motor case. Take care not to lose the overdrive and underdrive accumulators and springs as you work because they could come loose. Afterwards, carefully separate the valve body assembly from the transmission.
  • Q: How Is the Valve Body Installed During the Transmission Assembly Process on Dodge Challenger?
    A:
Set the valve body in place and add the bolts loosely, followed by tightening all the bolts to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.). After that, install the transmission oil filter. Use Mopar R Lock And Seal Adhesive to touch up the sealing patch on the bolt before fully seated in the bolt hole that is sandwiched by the torque converter clutch and U/D clutch pressure tap circuits. Secure clean and dry Oil Pan and case rail together, add a 1/8" layer of Rtv to the oil pan and install with 20 Nm (14.5 ft. lbs.) of torque. Raise the vehicle up, connect the transmission range sensor connector, followed by the solenoid/pressure switch assembly connector and if equipped, the variable line pressure connector. After your vehicle is low enough, top up the transmission with Atf+4 transmission fluid and look to see that the level is correct. If a reconditioned or new valve body is used, do the Quick Learn Procedure.
