Dodge Charger Clock Spring Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Maintain SCCM Components Without Damaging the Clock Spring on Dodge Charger?
    A:
Every part of SCCM requires a complete removal of the assembly from the column, as taking out anything else might damage the Clock Spring's pins and stop the air bag system from working. First, attach the Steering Control Module (SCM) onto the multi-function switch, connect the multi-function switch and SCM to the SCCM shroud and tighten the three screws on the bottom. After that, mount the speed control switch. For a vehicle with a manually adjustable column, mount the strut; for those with electronically adjustable columns, fit the electric tilt levers and switch instead. ESP vehicles require you to install both the steering angle sensor and the six o'clock screw. After leaving a screw on the Clock Spring loose, mount the Clock Spring, then place and tighten the SCCM on your steering column followed by fitting the last screw of the Clock Spring.
  • Q: How to Safely Service the Steering Column Control Module with a Clock Spring on Dodge Charger?
    A:
Removing the entire SCCM assembly from the column is necessary to service any of its components, so that the Clock Spring pins are not damaged and the air bag will not fail. Be sure to straighten the Steering Wheel and front wheels before you start. Make sure the steering wheel and front wheels are on a straight line to start. After that, remove the Steering Column Control Module (SCCM) and take out the Clock Spring. You should be able to rotate the Clock Spring about 5 3/4 turns from lock to lock; set it in the middle by rotating the Clock Spring rotor clockwise until it rests. After finishing travel, rotate the rotor back two turns and then continue slightly so that the wires sit on the right side of the column shaft, just above position 3 o'clock. The last step is to set up SCCM. Wait to link the battery negative cable after the system test is done so you can prevent personal injury or death.
