You should disconnect and separate the battery negative cable before servicing or repairing the
Antenna cable. Lift the trim panel at the right cowl side inner roof, then access and remove the antenna cable from its connector by reaching under the instrument panel, next to the
Glove Box and pulling the two halves of the metal connector apart without pulling on the cable. Release the retaining straps for the antenna coaxial cable at both the inner panel and inside the right front fender. Unhook the antenna base mast, then use an antenna nut wrench (Special Tool C-4816) to unscrew the cap nut from the antenna. Finally, remove the antenna adapter from the fender. Raise the antenna body through the fender opening and, from under the door, pull the antenna and cable out of the space between the right cowl panel and the fender through the front door. Take the antenna coaxial cable grommet out of the right side cowl outer panel, then use that hole to remove the cable from inside the vehicle-once done, remove the antenna body and cable from the car. Remove the negative cable from the battery and cover it up, then proceed to remove and separate the cable from the antenna area as before. Tie a suitable length of cord or twine to the part of the coaxial cable that's on the instrument panel, as you'll need it later. Open the glove box and the retainer clips near the instrument panel support and disconnect the antenna cable from the instrument panel. Then, remove the radio receiver from the panel and extract the antenna cable through the opening of the receiver. Take the twine or cord out of the connector on the instrument panel antenna, but do not move the connector and remove the antenna cable. For installation, place the antenna and cable between the outer panel and fender through the front door opening, shove the coaxial cable inside through the panel hole and put the antenna's grommet into the hole you made. Hold the antenna body through the mounting slot, place the adapter on top and tighten the screw at the top using an antenna nut wrench (C-4816) to 8 Nm (70 in. lbs.). Secure the antenna mast to the antenna with 3.3 Nm (30 in. lbs.) of torque and clasp the antenna coaxial cable retainers at the right cowl side and inside the right front fender. Push the coaxial cable into the cage and snap it into place under both locations. Plug the antenna coaxial cable connector into the panel outboard the glove box, secure the trim to the right cowl side inner panel and attach the negative cable to the battery. At the start of installation, tie the section of cord that you used for removal to the connector on the antenna coaxial cable, then guide the antenna wire from the connector through the radio opening using the twine you tied it to. Replace the radio receiver in the instrument panel, fasten the instrument panel antenna cable to the lower instrument panel support, under the glove box door, detach the cord or twine from the instrument panel end of the antenna coaxial cable connector and hook the antenna coaxial cable connector back under the instrument panel area outboard of the glove box.
