The Dodge Dakota Windshield Washer Pump is responsible for delivering pressurized washer fluid from the reservoir under the hood to the small spray nozzles which will help clear water, dirt, and road film so that the driver maintains a clear view. The Windshield Washer Pump features a compact electric motor which draws fluid from under-hood reservoir of Dakota and upon activation of cabin switch, pushes the fluid through plastic tubing to the windscreen through internal inlet. The Windshield Washer Pump helps ensure the safe operation of Dodge trucks in the rain or when debris obscures the glass by sending a steady jet that the wiper blades can immediately sweep away. The washer pump is located towards the bottom on the fluid tank. It relies on a sealed housing for leak prevention, while simple electrical wiring is sufficient for power and command signals. If the Windshield Washer Pump fails, the washer may not spray at all or send liquid in an unintended direction. Proper maintenance of the Windshield Washer Pump allows each Dodge owner to maintain a clear Dakota windshield, and with ongoing maintenance, the Dodge Dakota can be prepared for anything.

Dodge Dakota Windshield Washer Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q:
How to Remove the Windshield Washer Pump on Dodge Dakota?
    A:
Before removing the windshield washer pump, make sure to disconnect and shut off the battery negative cable. Empty the washer reservoir into a clean container to use the fluid again. Lift up the vehicle, then touch the outboard lower surface of the combination washer reservoir/coolant reserve bottle by reaching underneath the splash shield near the front of the left wheel house and the bumper support. Remove the wire harness connector from the washer pump/motor unit and remove the washer hose from the pump outlet nipple. Simply grasp the pump/motor housing near the top and pull it carefully to the rear to release the secure fit it has with the molded motor receptacle. Gently use a trim stick or wide flat tool to lift out the inlet nipple of the washer pump from its rubber seal in the reservoir, trying not to damage the reservoir. Lastly, eliminate and throw away the rubber grommet seal from the opening in the reservoir where the pump is mounted.
  • Q:
How to Service and Repair a Windshield Washer Pump on Dodge Dakota?
    A:
Start by unplugging and disconnecting the battery's negative cable to service the windshield washer motor. Continue by removing the headlamp and dash wire harness connector from the motor connector receptacle and pull off the washer supply hose from the barbed outlet nipple of the washer pump/motor, so that the washer fluid leaks into a suitable receptacle. With a trim stick or other flat-bladed tool, go round the opening in the rubber sealing ring until the inlet nipple of the pump comes loose, making sure not to injure the reservoir. Take off and throw away the rubber grommet seal inside the hole meant for the washer pump on the washer reservoir. When you position the grommet seal, make sure you install a brand-new one in the hole of the washer pump. Apply pressure on the rubber seal of the inlet in the reservoir while you fit and secure the pump's nipple. Place the washer hose onto the barbed opening on the pump, then attach the headlamp and dash wires to their place on the motor connector receptacle. Fill the reservoir with the fluid you removed earlier and then reattach the negative Battery Cable.
