How to Maintain an Ashtray on Dodge Durango?

Be sure to turn off the air bag system by disconnecting and isolating the negative (ground) cable from the battery before you work on the ash tray and wait two minutes afterward for the capacitor to empty itself. Take out the ash receiver and housing unit from the pocket below the control buttons. Move the ash receiver housing outward to free the guide/stop pins inside the ash receiver door from the housing lock. Release the two hinges on the bottom of the ash receiver door by taking them off the hinge pins of the housing. Press a blunt object down on the pivot point of the push/push latch lever from above as you push it out to pull it away from the housing. To fit the assembly, slide the push/push latch lever guide tang into the keyed part of the guide slot within the housing, set the pivot pin into the pivot hole and push down until it clicks in. Place the ash receiver door hinges on the pins that are already in the housing and snap them into position. Be sure that the flat end of the push latch spring on the ash receiver door goes into the slotted hole in the housing after insertion, then begin to spread the housing to fit the guide/stop pins. Finally, test the push/push latch and slide the ash receiver into the lower bezel of the instrument panel.
