To begin the installation, make sure the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) is turned off by removing the battery negative cable, giving it two minutes to drain its capacitor. The service replacement Clock Spring has a pre-installed, molded plastic locking pin that must stay inside the
Steering Wheel until you attach the wheel. It is necessary to straighten the steering wheel and lock the steering system before starting the process. When replacing the Clock Spring, take the multifunction switch jumper harness over from the old unit or apply a new one. Slide the Clock Spring down the steering column shaft and join the three blue wires from the instrument panel to its case. Insert the three screws into the steering bracket; put the Clock Spring in position, tighten the screws in order from lower right to upper left and then upper right, up to 3 Nm (27 in. lbs.). Place the multifunction switches on both sides onto the Clock Spring and then set the upper and lower shrouds around the steering column. Raise the steering column all the way and use the lock to secure it where it is. After putting the steering wheel back into place, take out the plastic locking pin from the Clock Spring rotor to help the steering wheel stay aligned and then reconnect the battery negative cable.
