The Dodge Journey Heater Core is one of the features of this car that has stood the test of time proving durable and efficient in the Journey series of Dodge cars. Known as the heater matrix, this core part works with the flow of excess heat from the engine to warm the cabin hence providing comfortable driving irrespective of the hostile weather. Similar to a Heater Core, it has the shape of a compact radiator, where heat is transferred to the cabin air with the help of water and antifreeze mixture. The fact that it is compatible with numerous Dodge journey models is also beneficial because it simply fits into the cars heating mechanism. The Heater Core is used in heating air besides serving the function of removing humidity from the air in conditioned car, thus enhancing the comfort of the cabin. Main characteristics can be differentiated in more elaborated temperature control systems that might use for instance electromechanical actuator to control temperature; differentiation in the automotive market. Especially the Dodge Journey with its large interior, and good safety characteristics will greatly need the Heater Core as the system has a positive impact on safety features of the car. As with any part of the vehicle, common problems like clogging or leakage can present difficulties; however, given the Heater Core's location in the vehicle behind the dashboard, its function is crucial in preserving the capabilities of the Dodge Journey. Even after the discontinuation of the Dodge Journey after the model year 2020, the Heater Core becomes one of the last innovations contributing to the comfort, safety, and affordable prices that the car has earned the automotive industry's recognition.

Dodge Journey Heater Core Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service a Heater Core on Dodge Journey?
    A:
It is important to read and pay attention to all the warnings before servicing the front heater core to prevent injury. The HVAC housing should be removed from the vehicle for the heater core work to be done. The first step is to remove the HVAC housing assembly and set it on a workbench. Following that, take off the left side front floor duct. If the foam seal under the flange is damaged or out of shape, you should put in a new one. Pull the foam seal away from the front flange on the HVAC housing. Remove the screw that holds the flange to the HVAC housing and get the flange loose. On RHD models, take out the air distribution housing from the HVAC housing. Take care as you remove the heater core from the air distribution housing on the driver's side.
  • Q: How to Install a Rear Heater Core on Dodge Journey?
    A:
As you secure the rear heater core, make sure the heater core tubes bypass the plastic evaporator tube bracket so you don't damage it when mounting. Initial installation should include placing the rear heater core (5) into the rear heater-A/C housing (4) and properly pushing the foam seals in place. Place and secure the rear heater core tubes (3) to the outboard portion of the rear heater-A/C housing, tightening them to 1.2 Nm (10 in. lbs.) with screw (1). Insert the rear heater-A/C distribution housing (2) and snap each of the five plastic retainers inside onto the rear heater-A/C housing (5). Put three metal retaining clips (6) inside the rear distribution housing to keep it in place on the rear heater-A/C housing. Join the connector (1) at the wire harness to the actuator (3), then set the actuator (1) over the rear heater-A/C housing (3), aligning the splines on the actuator output shaft with those found on the rear blend-air door pivot shaft (2), if required. Install two screws (1) into the rear heater-A/C housing (4), fasten them by hand to reach 1.2 Nm (10 in. lbs.) and join the rear Blend Door Actuator wire harness connector (3). Place the flange (1) in the bottom of the rear heater-A/C housing (3), attach three retaining screws (2) and tighten them to 1.2 Nm (10 in. lbs.). Put the foam seal (2) directly inside the flange (1) at the rear heater-A/C housing's bottom, making sure it fits well. Fit the heater-A/C housing back in place, reconnect the battery negative terminal, replace the coolant after removing the back heater core, add coolant to the engine system and empty and fill the refrigerant.
