Dodge Journey Blend Door Actuator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Install a Blend Door Actuator in Single and Dual Zone HVAC Systems on Dodge Journey?
    A:
A single zone heating and cooling unit has only a single actuator, but a dual zone system has actuators on each side. Align the blend door actuator on the left side of the HVAC air distribution housing so the output shaft fits over the link for the blend air door. Tighten two screws in the actuator to 2 Nm (17 in. lbs.) and then plug in the wire harness connector of the actuator. For cars with a right-hand drive, set up the glove box bin and, when available, the silencer below the instrument panel, then attach the negative Battery Cable and run Actuator Calibration using the scan tool. For the right side assembly, put the blend door actuator on the right side of the air distribution housing and link up the wire harness. Put the actuator into place with the blend door linkage, attach it with two screws tightened to 1.2 Nm (10 in. lbs.) and install the right front floor distribution duct. In left-hand drive models, fit the convenient space inside the glove box and, if you have one, the silencer beneath the instrument panel and after attaching the negative battery cable, initiate the Actuator Calibration process using a scan tool.
  • Q: How to Safely Service and Remove a Blend Door Actuator on Dodge Journey?
    A:
Before handling the air door actuator/motor, first cut off the air bag system by taking the negative Battery Cable away, wait two minutes and let the air bag capacitor empty of current. One blend door actuator is used for single zone heating-A/C systems and two actuators are used for dual zone systems, each for the driver and passenger side. For the negative battery on a single zone or dual zone system, break the connection and on RHD cars, detach the silencer found under the passenger side of the instrument panel. Then, unplug the connector from the blend door actuator on the left wall of the HVAC air distribution housing, remove both screws and lift the actuator out of the housing. On the right side of a dual zone system, begin by removing the negative battery cable and, for right-hand drive cars, taking out the silencer from beneath the passenger instrument panel. Second, if there is a glove box bin, remove it; take out the distribution duct from the right side of the air housing, remove the screws attached to the actuator on that same side and disconnect the wire connector before pulling the actuator out of the car.
