  Before changing the piston and connecting rod assemblies, cut away the cylinder bore's top ridge with a reliable ridge reamer but keep the tops of the pistons covered. Move the Crankshaft to make sure every connecting rod is perfectly centered in its cylinder bore before removing them. Gently mark the places for the rod and caps with a scribe tool or ink pen to ensure you do not harm the crack in the rod and cap. Unscrew the oval plug and install the Special Tool 8189 Connecting Rod Guides into the connecting rod that will be removed, after which remove each piston and rod assembly from the cylinder bore, taking care to keep the crankshaft journals free from nicks.
