Confirm that the top and bottom bearing halves are not the same and that the main bearings should be ordered as select fit before installing the crankshaft. Put the main bearing in the block and main caps in place and confirm that its tangs are aligned with the slots in the bearings. After cleaning the bearing surfaces, apply engine oil to the upper main bearing halves before you install them, making certain not to damage the crankshaft surfaces. Place the crankshaft in position so the coated and oil groove side of the thrust washer touches the crankshaft thrust surface. Roll the front thrust washer along the machined location between the No. 3 upper main bulk head and crankshaft by pushing the crankshaft forward during the installation procedure. Move the crankshaft rearward, add oil and push in the rear thrust washer just as you did for the front washer. Fill the lower main bearings with oil and fit the caps on the main bearing caps, lubricating the bolts first. Starter drive main cap bolts should be tightened to 20 Nm, then measure the end play of the crankshaft. Connect the rods and look at their side clearance before proceeding. Put the windage tray which has slots on the right, into place, lubricate the bolts and tighten them to 27 Nm plus 1/4 turn. Install the main cap tie bolts and tighten each one to 28 Nm. Then, assembly the rear crankshaft seal retainer and seal and the oil pump assembly comes next. After securing the tube and O-ring with the O-ring bolts, tighten them to 28 Nm. After that, put in the gasket for the
Oil Pan, the oil pan and the
Oil Filter, then add the crankshaft sprocket,
Timing Chain, timing chain cover, the cylinder head covers and the dipstick tube. Finally, set the engine into place, make sure oil is added correctly, fill the coolant, start the engine and observe for any leaking.
