Dodge Magnum vehicles have a camshaft that is tasked with the responsibility of controlling the movement of the intake and exhaust valves to allow the entry of air/fuel mixture and the exit of the exhaust gases. In most cases made out of iron or steel, the Dodge Magnum camshaft runs through the Over Head Valve (OHV), Single Over Head Cam (SOHC) and the Dual Over Head Cam (DOHC) settings. All affects the performance of the engine uniquely, with the DOHC configurations letting the individual control of the intake and exhaust valves. Factory and camshafts are available for the Dodge Magnum and the performance camshafts are intended to increase power and efficiency. These performance options mostly come with greater lift and longer duration therefore enhancing air flow and power at high RPMs. Other characteristics, like Lobe Separation Angle (LSA) influence torque and idle quality enabling for particular type of driving.

Dodge Magnum Camshaft Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Install a Camshaft on Dodge Magnum?
    A:
You should align the plated links on the camshaft chain, with their smooth side pointing forward and then match the dots on the camshaft sprockets. When the camshaft chain tensioner is already pushed in and locked, you should now move onto the next stage. If the tensioner won't fit, put it into a soft jaw vise and slowly compress it until you can put a fabricated lock pin or its equivalent into the locking holes. After that, remove it from the vise. Push the compressed and locked tensioner over the camshafts onto the chain, then turn the cams so that the notches and marks are at the top of your watch face. Set the cams into the cylinder head so that the Rocker Arms are properly positioned. After that, place the camshaft bearing caps back where they were removed and use a torque wrench to tighten the cam bearing cap bolts first in sequence to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.). Attach the secondary tensioner bolts and tighten them to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.), then get rid of the locking pin on the tensioners. After that, measure the end play of the camshaft and then fit the primary Timing Chain.
  • Q: How to Remove a Camshaft on Dodge Magnum?
    A:
Before removing the camshaft, take away the primary Timing Chain. After that, take out the bolts that secure the secondary chain tensioner (6). Notice that engine producers mark the camshaft bearing cap number one exhaust cam as "1E" during the engine manufacturing process. Release each camshaft bearing cap bolt in the tablet trained order and take out the camshaft bearing caps (1). Next, get rid of the intake camshaft (7), exhaust camshaft (2), secondary timing chain (8) and secondary timing chain tensioner (6) all at once. After that, remove the secondary timing chain tensioner (6) and secondary timing chain (8) from the camshafts (2) and (7) and examine the camshafts as needed.
