Before swapping the
Piston rings, it is necessary to take out the piston and connecting rod. With the ring expander tool, take the No. 1 and No. 2 piston rings off the piston, plus the upper oil ring side rail (2), lower oil ring side rail (2) and oil ring expander (1). Before installing, check the space between the piston rings and the cylinder bore and piston. Place in order the oil ring expander, the lower side rail of the main ring, the upper side rail of the main ring, the intermediate piston ring and the upper piston ring when installing the piston rings. Install the oil ring expander first, set one end of the side rail in between the piston ring groove and the oil ring expander, keep it secure and push it down until it is properly seated. Start by setting in the lower side rail, then place the upper side rail, so the No. 2 ring has the manufacturer's dot facing towards the top of the piston. First, use a ring expander to fit the piston rings, then put the No. 2 ring on first, followed by the No. 1 one. Put the oil control ring gap (5) into place like it is shown, followed by the piston lower side rail end gap (4), piston upper side rail end gap (1) and the end gaps of piston rings No. 2 (5) and No. 1 (2), in that order.
