To remove, repair, and service the spark plug on a 2.7L engine, the negative battery cable must be disconnected first and next the intake manifold removed. Before removing the ignition coils, spray compressed air around the coil area and the spark plug in order to clear contaminants from the spark plug tube. When loosening the screws on 3.5L engines, do so by alternating back and forth, making sure not to lose the coil's spacer underneath. In the next step, you will need to remove the ignition coil. To do this, grasp the spark plug boot and turn the assembly 1/2 turn. Now pull straight back with a steady motion. Then use a quality socket with rubber or foam insert to remove the spark plug and check its condition.
