  Before doing any work on the expansion valve, first empty the refrigeration system completely. Start by disconnecting the wire connector from the low pressure cut-off switch, then get rid of the center bolt in the refrigerant line plumbing sealing plate. Be sure to pull the refrigerant line-sealing plate assembly away from the expansion valve toward the engine compartment, avoiding any contact between the pilot tubes and the sealing parts. Cover the exposed openings on the A/C line-sealing plate assembly with caps before removing the two screws holding the expansion valve to the evaporator sealing plate. Before installing, put the aluminum gasket on the evaporator sealing plate, position the expansion valve over the sealing plate not touching the surface and press the screws to 3-11 Nm (300-1100 in. lbs.). Then, set the aluminum gasket in place on the refrigerant line-sealing plate, seal the refrigerant line-sealing plate to the expansion valve and screw in the bolt by hand until tightened to 23 ± 3 Nm (200 ± 30 in. lbs.). Reattach the wires to the low-pressure switch, empty and refill the system, check the system after installing the expansion valve and vacuum for leaks. After that, run an A/C performance check.

  First, get the refrigerant out of the system and then remove the negative Battery Cable to service and repair the A/C expansion valve. Unfasten the wire harness from the low pressure A/C switch and then disconnect the bolt holding the suction and liquid line fittings secure to the A/C expansion valve. Remove both lines from the A/C expansion valve and place them somewhere they will not interfere. Remove any gaskets applied to the A/C expansion valve and cover both the valve's ends and the openings on the suction and liquid lines with plugs or tape. Release the two bolts which attach the A/C expansion valve to the evaporator tube tapping plate and remove the valve. Eliminate the gasket from the tapping plate and insert plugs or tape into the opened tube fittings on the evaporator and both expansion valve ports. If you find it necessary, take the A/C low pressure switch out of the A/C expansion valve. If you don't have the A/C low pressure switch in place, put it onto the A/C expansion valve and secure it firmly during installation. Replace the tape or plugs in the evaporator tube fittings and the two ports on the back of the A/C expansion valve and then put a fresh gasket onto the evaporator tube tapping plate. Set the A/C expansion valve above the evaporator tube tapping plate and attach each of the two bolts, tighten both bolts to 10 Nm (88 in. lbs.). Disattach the tape or plugs from the liquid and suction line fittings as well as the two ports at the front of the A/C expansion valve and put a new gasket onto the A/C expansion valve. Connect the liquid and suction line fittings to the expansion valve and use the bolt to secure the joint, tightened to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.) Attach the wire harness connector to the A/C low pressure switch, put the negative battery cable back, empty the refrigerant and top it back up.
