Dodge Neon Power Steering Hose Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Install a Power Steering Hose on a 2.0L Engine on Dodge Neon?
    A:
Make sure to slide a hose clamp onto the end of the pre-formed hose where it will attach to the Power Steering Pump before fitting it to the reservoir. Route the pump side up into the engine area above, near the engine cover and push it down along the A/c lines to the fluid reservoir fitting and send the gear part down beyond the engine to the power steering gear. Push the hose over the fitting on the power steering fluid reservoir, use the clamp to expand it and set the hose past the edge of the fitting. Put the vehicle on a lift and move the power steering fluid hoses out of the way of the exhaust and any potentially damaging parts. Attach a bolt through the return hose routing clamp and the rear end of your B6 engine. Wipe the open end of the power steering hose and the power steering cooler tube with a cloth free of lint. Attach a hose clamp to the hose so it is not touching the cooler's fitting, then guide the hose into the system, making sure the clamp is installed inside the bead of the water tube. Adjust the car to a lower height, perform the Power Steering Pump Initial Operation and look for any leaks on the hose fittings.
  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Power Steering Hose for Pressure Hose on Dodge Neon?
    A:
The first step to maintaining your power steering hose is to empty the power steering fluid reservoir as much as possible. Lift the car up and fit the tube nut on the power steering fluid pressure hose to the gear. Undo the pressure hose tube from the clips and work it off the power steering gear at the same time. Drop the vehicle and remove the bolt attached to the hose routing clip on the right motor mount, then pull the power steering hose from the clip. Take off the tube nut attaching the hose to the Power Steering Pump, pull the hose from the pump and take the pressure hose out of the engine bay. Guide the hose with the pump toward the base of the pump, then lay the rest alongside the engine on the right, directing it down below the engine to meet the power steering gear. Clean the ends of the hose and the pump port area with a lint-free towel, change the older O-ring for a new one and lubricate it. Hold the pressure hose to the outlet fitting on the pump and tighten the nut with 34 Nm (26 ft.lbs.) of torque. Put the hose into the routing clip and secure it to the right engine by tightening the clip bolt to 12 Nm (105 inch lbs.). Raise the vehicle once more to avoid touching the hoses with the exhaust system or other vulnerable parts. Clean both the end of the open hose and the power steering gear port, put in a new O-ring and lubricate it. Insert the pressure hose into the steering gear port by twisting the tube nut, but don't tighten it all the way. Insert the hose into the routing clips and make sure they are shut. Place a 34 Nm (25 ft. lbs.) torque setting on the tube nut, lower the vehicle, go through the Power Steering Pump Initial Operation procedure and check each hose joint for leaks.
