Before starting any work on the air bag system, you must first disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable to stop the air bag system from deploying by accident and keeping you safe. Allow the system capacitor to drain for 1 full minute prior to taking out any air bag parts. Set the tires to run straight ahead, after that turn the steering wheel half a turn to the right and secure it with the lock on the ignition. Loosen and take off the negative cable from the battery. Get rid of the speed control switches and disconnect all the wire connector or cover lines. Lift the Driver air bag Module attaching bolts from the back of the steering wheel, remove and lift the module and disconnect the air bag and horn wire connectors. Remove the steering wheel retaining nut and then put the puller in the center of the steering wheel to remove it. Remember to help the wires through the holes as you take the wheel out. Before installation, make sure the steering wheel is at 180 degrees turned to the right, the column is securely locked with the ignition key and the turn signal stalk is in the middle (not moved). Install the steering wheel, with the center flats matching the
Clock Spring and use the larger slot to pull the horn lead, air bag lead and speed control lead through, taking care not to pinch the leads. Attach and tighten the steering wheel retaining nut to a torque of 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.). Install the air bag driver module, but do not connect the negative
Battery Cable, since the testing methods for the air bag system must be followed.
