The Catalytic Converter in Dodge Nitro; An application of the emissions system in Dodge Nitro cars is the catalytic converter that helps in burning Carbon Monoxide, Hydrocarbons, and Oxides of Nitrogen into water and Carbon dioxide and Nitrogen respectively. These are substances within this device that increase the rate of chemical changes without undergoing change themselves. Some of the problems include internal problems resulting from the engine, the impact with sharp objects on the road, and buildup which hampers performance. The converter minimizes the back pressure and restriction of the exhaust further with the help of a monolithic honeycomb substrate that is coated with the catalysts such as platinum, palladium, and rhodium. Performance catalytic converters are meant for high flow and proper oxidation/reduction and come in direct fit and universal form for ease of installation.

Dodge Nitro Catalytic Converter Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Safely Remove a Catalytic Converter on Dodge Nitro?
    A:
Before removing the catalytic converter, lift and secure the vehicle at both ends. Cover the bolts and nuts with a heat valve lubricant and give them 5 minutes to soak. After removing the connectors from the Oxygen Sensors, disconnect all nuts from the front Exhaust Pipe to the catalytic converter and muffler flange. After that, take out the bolts and flanged nuts located at the manifold. Let the front exhaust pipe and catalytic converter down and slide it away from the mount at the transmission if you have it, before moving the whole assembly from the car.
  • Q: How to Install a Catalytic Converter on a 3.7L Engine on Dodge Nitro?
    A:
If the car is equipped with a transmission, put the catalytic converter assembly into the mount after aligning the front Exhaust Pipe with the mount on the transmission. Add the nuts to the front exhaust pipe and catalytic converter assembly before you attach them to the muffler flange and leave them loose. Make certain that the exhaust pipe is at least 25.4 mm (1.0 in.) away from the bottom of the vehicle and its frame. At the Exhaust Manifold, tighten the bolt to 27 Nm (19 in. lbs.) torque and next tighten the front exhaust pipe and catalytic converter assembly to muffler flange nuts to 27 Nm (19 ft. lbs.) torque. Attach the end of the front pipe to the exhaust manifold's connection and tighten the clamp so it measures 10 Nm (95 in. lbs.) torque. Slide in the Oxygen Sensor's electrical connectors, raise the vehicle, turn it on and check for leaks in the exhaust, fixing them as needed. Also, inspect the positioning of the exhaust versus the rest of the car's bodywork and move it if contact is found.
