Dodge Ram 1500 A/C Accumulator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to remove an A/C Accumulator on Dodge Ram 1500?
    A:
First, separate the negative Battery Cable from the car and only after that take out the refrigerant from the A/C. Following this, remove the cover over the housing for the air filter to get to the A/C accumulator (9). Take out the secondary retaining clip (11) from the spring-lock coupler (1) that hooks the A/C suction line (10) to the accumulator outlet tube (2). Hook up your Special Tool Kit 7193 or a suitable substitute to separate the A/C suction line from the A/C accumulator and toss away the O-ring seals. If needed, remove the push-pin wire holder from the plastic wire harness and move the engine wire harness so it's away from the accumulator. With a screwdriver, turn counterclockwise the 8 bolts that join the A/C accumulator to the bracket (7) on the dash panel. Remove the secondary clip (4) on the spring-lock coupler (6) which joins the accumulator inlet tube (3) to the evaporator outlet tube (5). Once more, connect your polarized disconnection tool (equivalent to Special Tool Kit 7193 if not the same) to remove the accumulator inlet tube from the evaporator outlet tube and get rid of the O-ring seals. Afterwards, put caps on or cover the openings of the refrigerated system with tape and, if you need to replace the A/C accumulator, detach its mounting bolts plus the plastic wire harness bracket.
  • Q: How to Service and Repair an A/C Accumulator on Dodge Ram 1500?
    A:
The first part of servicing and repairing an accumulator HVAC is to disconnect the battery's negative cable and then to recover refrigerant from the system. Pull out the a/c low pressure switch from the accumulator, undo the screw holding the accumulator retaining band to the dash panel support bracket and take off the suction line refrigerant line fitting from the accumulator outlet. Afterwards, seal each opened fitting with a plug or tape. Following this, remove the fitting on the evaporator are that the refrigerant line connects to and seal both openings with another set of plugs or pieces of tape. Pull out the accumulator from the retaining band and take it out of the engine compartment. To mount the accumulator, put it again in the retaining band, remove any tape or plugs from the refrigerant line fittings in both the inlet and outlet and slide the coupler on the accumulator inlet into the evaporator outlet. Turn the screw holding the accumulator retaining band to 4.5 Nm (40 in. lbs.), remove any tape or covers from the fittings on the suction line and the accumulator outlet and attach the suction line coupler to the accumulator. Put in the new a/c low pressure switch in place of the old one, reattach the negative Battery Cable, pump the system of refrigerant and charge it. Should the accumulator be changed, put 60 milliliters (2 fluid ounces) of oil with the right type for the compressor into the refrigerant system.
