Before dealing with the valves and seats, you have to take out the cylinder heads. After that, pull out the
Rocker Arms and
Lash Adjusters and next, remove the
Camshaft bearing caps and the camshaft. Place valve spring compressor Special Tool C-3422-B or C-3422-C into the area with the Special Tool 8519 Adapter, then if necessary, gently tap the top of the valve spring to free the locks holding the spring retainer in place. Lift out the two halves of the spring retainer lock with care, remembering how stretched the valve spring becomes. After using the spring compressor, disconnect the retainer and spring, paying attention to any sharp edges in the keeper grooves and then deal with any burrs on the valve stem. Since
Valve Stem Seals are the same, you should remove one and label the valve for the proper installation method. Coat the valve stem with clean engine oil before gently inserting it into the cylinder head, seating the seal fully and checking that the garter spring isn't damaged. Install the spring and retainer after that and depress the spring with the compressor to put the valve spring retainers in place one by one. Remove the valve spring compressor after making sure the retainer halves and spring are sitting securely in place. Lubricate the camshaft journal with clear engine oil, fit the left camshaft at 11 O'clock and the right camshaft at 12 O'clock with their sprocket dowels and place the camshaft bearing caps in their positions. Fasten the camshaft bearing cap bolts, turning them until they are tightened to 9 - 13 Nm (100 inch lbs.) just a half-turn after each application. After that, put the hydraulic lash adjusters and rocker arms into place.
