To service and repair the lifter/lash adjuster, pull off the air cleaner and its hose and then remove the cylinder cover. The next step is to remove the rocker assembly and push rods and confirm which push rods they were so they go back properly. Get rid of the
Intake Manifold, the yoke retainer and the aligning yokes. Put the Hydraulic Tappet Remover/Installer Tool C-4129-a through the opening in the cylinder head and set it in the tappet head, pulling out the tappet afterward by moving it in a twisting motion as you identify each one. When a bore or tappet in the block is scored, scuffed or seems to have a sticking problem, oversize the bore and swap the tappet for an oversized one. During installation, lubricate the tappets, put them in their previous positions and make sure the oil hole in each tappet body is positioned up. Secure the aligning yokes, making sure the Arrow is pointing toward the
Camshaft, install the yoke retainer, tighten all bolts to 23 Nm (200 in. lbs.) and put back the intake manifold, push rods,
Rocker Arms and cylinder head cover. Next, put on the air cleaner assembly and inlet air hose, start the engine and let it heat up to normal temperature without making the engine idle too fast until all hydraulic tappets are quiet.
