Dodge Ram 1500 Van Coolant Temperature Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to service the Coolant Temperature Sensor on Dodge Ram 1500 Van?
    A:
Always leak out some coolant first to keep the coolant from splashing and injuring you in the cooling system. The sensor is set up in the water jacket front of the intake manifold and very close to the rear of the generator. In case there is one, remove the engine cover and air cleaner housing. Be sure to disconnect the negative battery cable before studying the sensor connector with a tiny mirror. Wear protective gloves and use the L-shaped tool from the coat hanger to remove the connector, making sure you don't pull the wiring harness directly. After detaching the old one, connect the new sensor into the intake manifold and set it to 11 Nm (8 ft. lbs.) torque. Reattach the electrical connector; the design allows it to fit nicely on both sides. Replace all of the engine coolant that drained out, then reinstall the engine cover and air cleaner housing if you have taken them out. Make sure to reattach the negative battery cable to its terminal.
