Dodge Ram 2500 Fuel Tank Vent Valve Parts and Q&A

  • Q: What is the Role of the Fuel Tank Vent Valve in a Fuel System on Dodge Ram 2500?
    A:
You have to release the pressure along the fuel line which will always be on, whether the engine is running or not. If the engine is fitted with a 26 or 34 gallon Fuel Tank, there are two rollover valves-one on the top of the tank that must be replaced by replacing the tank and one on the Fuel Pump module that can be worked on independent of the tank. Each of the two rollover valves is fixed to the top of a 35 gallon fuel tank, so if a valve fails, the whole tank must be changed. Unplug the negative Battery Cable, pop off the fuel filler cap and drain the tank of fuel first. After that, take out the fuel tank and cut the tube right after the valve. The rollover valve is inside a rubber tube; to remove it, lift one edge ever so slightly and carefully roll it out. Break loose the old grommet from its place. Install a new grommet on the fuel pump or tank module, push the valve in with your finger, reinstall the tank, fill it with fuel and put back the filler cap. Next, attach the negative cable back to the battery and crank the engine to watch for any leaks.
