To service and repair the turn signal switch, first disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable. Remove the driver side air bag module from the steering wheel, and if equipped with vehicle speed control, disconnect the steering wheel wire harness connectors from the speed control switches. Remove the nut securing the steering wheel to the upper steering column shaft and use a steering wheel puller (Special Tool C-3428-B) to remove the steering wheel. Take out the knee blocker from the instrument panel and, if applicable, remove the tilt steering column lever by pulling it sharply away from the steering column. From the bottom of the lower steering column shroud, remove the two screws securing it to the upper shroud, then unsnap the front and both sides of the lower shroud from the upper shroud. Tilt the lower shroud downward and slide it toward the instrument panel to disengage the hooks from the pivots on the upper shroud. Remove the two screws securing the upper shroud to the steering column and take off the upper shroud. Remove the two lower wire harness tie wraps, then remove the screw from the center of the steering column wire harness connector and disconnect the two halves. Disengage the two multi-function switch wire harness connectors from the steering column wire harness insulator. Remove the two screws securing the multi-function switch to the steering column and take out the multi-function switch. For installation, position the multi-function switch onto the steering column and tighten the two screws to 6 Nm (53 in. lbs.). Engage the two multi-function switch wire harness connectors, ensuring the wire harnesses are not pinched or stretched, then reconnect the two halves of the steering column wire harness connector and tighten the securing screw to 4.5 Nm (40 in. lbs.). Install two new lower wire harness tie wraps in the same positions as those removed. Ensure the upper steering column shroud spacer mounting stud is fully seated, then position the upper shroud onto the steering column and tighten the two screws to 1.4 Nm (12 in. lbs.). Engage the hooks on the lower steering column shroud with the pivots on the upper shroud, swing the lower shroud up, and snap the two halves together. From the bottom of the lower shroud, install and tighten the two screws to 3.4 Nm (30 in. lbs.). If applicable, install the tilt steering column lever by positioning it in the receptacle and pushing it firmly into place. Install the knee blocker onto the instrument panel, then position the steering wheel onto the upper steering column shaft, ensuring the alignment splines match. Tighten the nut securing the steering wheel to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.). If equipped with vehicle speed control, reconnect the steering wheel wire harness connectors to the speed control switches, ensuring proper routing of the wire harnesses. Finally, install the driver side air bag module onto the steering wheel and reconnect the battery negative cable.
