The first step to servicing or repairing the brake light switch is getting rid of the lower column cover, then the Data Link Connector, hood release lever and park brake release lever from the knee blocker. After that, slide out the knee blocker so you can work on the switch. Press and hold the brake pedal, turn the brake lamp switch counterclockwise about 300 to unlock it, pull the switch out of the mounting bracket and then release the brake pedal. Loosen the wire harness and bring out the switch from the car. Join the wire harness to the new switch and once more apply firm pressure to the brake pedal during installation. Put the switch into the bracket so the index on the locking collar lines up with the switch, then turn the switch clockwise by about 30° to secure it in place. Depress the brake pedal and lift the top lever to pull open the switch plunger. The switch should only be adjusted when installing the appliance; if it is not adjusted correctly, a fresh one must be chosen. Last, put back the knee blocker, then the Data Link Connector, the hood release lever, park brake release lever and finish by installing the lower column cover.
