How to Maintain and Repair a Fuel Tank on Dodge Ram 3500?

Before you can service or repair the fuel tank module, first take out and drain the fuel tank. Wipe down the space just above the tank module. Work the Special Tool 6856 into the locknut screwed onto the fuel tank to remove it and watch the fuel tank module spring free. Take the module off the top of the fuel tank. The rubber gasket should be changed every time the fuel tank module is service. Clean both the locknut and the threads near the top of the tank. Lay the fuel tank module, with a new gasket in place, into the opening at the top of the fuel tank. Secure the locknut over the fuel tank and fasten it around the module by hand. Attach and connect the fuel line as well as the fuel gauge electrical connector to your left and rotate and align them if needed. Secure both of them with a locknut at a torque between 18 and 32 ft.lbs. After all the work, reconnect the fuel tank to the vehicle.

Set the module and tank marks as needed to avoid touching the side of the fuel tank, then tighten the locknut to a torque of 24 - 44 Nm (18 - 32 ft. lbs.). After everything else is done, reinstall the fuel tank.
