In servicing the turn signal switch, disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable and wait at least two minutes to deactivate the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) to prevent an inadvertent air bag deployment from sending power to the system capacitor. Start by unscrewing the bolt that holds the tilt steering column knob and remove it from the left-hand tilt actuator on the column. Next, remove the two outboard screws that secure the upper column shroud to the lower shroud from below the steering column. To detach the upper shroud, press inward on both sides of the upper shroud, above the parting line of the lower shroud to release the snap features. Next, unscrew the center screw that attaches the lower shroud to the steering column and remove the lower shroud. The wire harness connector must be disconnected from the back of the switch housing. Rotate the steering wheel to access and remove the two screws holding the switch to the multi-function switch mounting housing. Most importantly, the operator must take the switch control stalk in hand and pull the stalk towards the left hand side of the vehicle to remove the switch from the mounting housing.
