First, turn off the supplemental restraint system by disconnecting the negative
Battery Cable and wait two minutes for the capacitor to empty. Always use rubber gloves, put on eye protection and wear a long-sleeved shirt when dealing with an air bag, since particles near the air bag might cause irritation. At first, take out the two screws that hold the driver air bag to the
Steering Wheel armature beneath the steering wheel. To prevent problems with your air bag circuits, avoid pulling on the
Clock Spring pigtail wires. Be careful to remove the driver air bag from the steering wheel, so you can see the electrical connections in the air bag housing. First, remove the Clock Spring horn and steering wheel switch wire harness from the power supply in the driver air bag housing. Afterward, take out the Clock Spring driver air bag wire harness from the receptacle on the inflator initiator by moving the locking slot to the top, depressing the tab on the connector and taking the connector out of the inflator initiator straight up. Finally, take the driver air bag out from the steering wheel. Whenever the driver air bag is deployed, you will have to replace both the Clock Spring and the steering wheel as a result.
