The Dodge Stratus Catalytic Converter is one of the emission control devices of the Dodge Stratus cars; these cars are reputed for their durability and efficiency. This Catalytic Converter is particularly important in ensuring that dangerous gases including Carbon Monoxide, Hydrocarbons, and Oxides of Nitrogen are converted and possibly made less dangerous, into water and Carbon Dioxide hence boosting Efficiency and Safety. The Dodge Stratus can be adopted to the other models manufactured between 1995 and 2005, thus allowing the drivers to enjoy the optimum performance levels regardless of the generation of the car. Made of the more efficient and durable materials such as platinum, palladium and rhodium, the Dodge Stratus Catalytic Converter enables important chemical conversion while it significantly reduces the back pressure that hampers exhaust emissions, therefore enhancing the engine power. For instance, current Dodge Stratus Catalytic Converters have a complex interior design, honeycomb to improve oxidation and reduction activity. A direct fit or universal design of the exhaust system specifically addresses clients' automotive requirements and is easy to install, which is a plus in its industry. Since the Dodge Stratus is known to produce fuel economy of 20-21 mpg for city driving along with 26-29 mpg for highway driving, the importance of a Catalytic Converter cannot be overemphasized here. All in all, the Dodge Stratus Catalytic Converter is a manifestation of Dodge's responsibility to the environment and at the same time, the manufacturer's perdurable effort to continually make the Dodge Stratus as a car for the budget-conscious driver, which gives not only the performance to win but quality that instills the reliability and efficiency.

Dodge Stratus Catalytic Converter Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Rear Catalytic Converter on Dodge Stratus?
    A:
Prior to servicing or repairing the rear catalytic converter, take out the negative Battery Cable and lift the vehicle on a hoist. After you remove the entire exhaust system, take out the exhaust cross-under pipe as well. Disconnect the Oxygen Sensor that's located upstream, remove the nuts holding the converter to the manifold and next remove the heat shield covering the Exhaust Manifold before removing the converter, throwing out the gasket. First, allow the exhaust system to cool, then use a borescope or flashlight plus visual inspection to look for any signs of cracks or melted element in the catalytic converter. Check for problems such as poor air or vanishing fuel, as well as ignition, before you try to replace the catalytic converter. Before installation, clean the manifold sealing areas and put a new gasket over the converter inlet flange. After installing the converter to the exhaust manifold, slip the exhaust manifold heat shield back on and tighten the nuts to the manifold with 28 Nm (250 inch lbs. of torque). Instead of the cross-under pipe, add the upstream oxygen sensor, reconnect it and complete the exhaust reassembly on the car. Next, lower the car and reconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
  • Q: How to Remove and Install a Catalytic Converter on a 2.0L/2.4L Engine on Dodge Stratus?
    A:
Before you do anything else, first safely raise the car on a hoist, add penetrating oil to where the band clamp and fasteners connect the resonator/pipe assembly and catalytic converter to the Exhaust Manifold. Take out the strap that connects the Muffler to the ground and unscrew the band clamp holding the resonator/pipe assembly. Take off the rubber isolators carefully and add some soapy water or spray lubricant if you need to, always excluding petroleum lubricants. Eliminate the help from the muffler supports and extract the resonator/pipe and muffler/pipe all together. Detach the connector for the downstream oxygen sensor and release the fasteners connecting the catalytic converter to the exhaust manifold. After the catalytic converter is removed from the vehicle, throw away its gasket. Check for blockages in the converter's flow and use a borescope or flashlight to scan the element for signs of damage such as cracks or melted areas, identify the cause of any problem before you decide to replace the converter. To put the manifold on, wipe the joint areas, then set a new gasket over the exhaust manifold. When you replace the catalytic converter, install the downstream oxygen sensor in the new converter and loosely attach the catalytic converter to the exhaust manifold. Next, put the resonator/pipe and muffler/pipe assembly on the catalytic converter outlet pipe. Place the support isolators onto the muffler supports, align the entire system for the proper space around it and tighten the fasteners for the catalytic converter to 28 Nm (250 inch lbs.) and the resonator/pipe band clamp to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.). Join the ground strap to the muffler, lift the car off the ground, start it and check for exhaust leaks. If leaks are found, address them to prevent your exhaust system from touching body panels.
