The process begins with blocking the wiring by removing the
Oxygen Sensor and the negative
Battery Cable. Put the car on a hoist, then take out the exhaust cross-under pipe and the front
Catalytic Converter. Lift the vehicle once more and get rid of the exhaust manifold bolts to free the manifold. After you remove the negative battery cable, take off the throttle body air inlet hose and the air cleaner housing assembly for the rear exhaust manifold. After detaching the bullets holding the
EGR Tube to the engine exhaust system and the
EGR Valve, toss away the gaskets. Raise the vehicle up on a hoist and then remove the exhaust system, the exhaust cross-under pipe and back catalytic converter. Begin by taking out the upstream oxygen sensor in the back, then remove the rear heat shield over the exhaust manifold. After that, take out the bolts holding in the back exhaust manifold. Both exhaust manifolds should be visually checked for damage, the exhaust manifold gasket should be free from discoloration and distortion and the cylinder head's mounting point should be examined for distortion using a straightedge and thickness gauge. First, set the exhaust manifold and gasket in place and tighten the bolts in a sequence from middle to outermost bolts, each bolt to 23 Nm (200 inch lbs.). Support the vehicle high enough to fit the front catalytic converter and its heat shield as well as the exhaust cross-under pipe, tighten everything to 28 Nm (250 inch lbs.) and move on to the next phase. Drop the vehicle, add the new oxygen sensor in and then reconnect the negative battery cable. Place the rear manifold and its gasket on the engine, tightening screws from the middle works outward to 23 Nm (200 inch-lbs.) before attaching the rear catalytic converter and heat shield, c which should be firmly secured with fasteners at 28 Nm (250 inch-lbs.). Installing the oxygen sensor and attaching the electrical connector come first, then the exhaust pipe cross-under and the exhaust system. Both should be tightened to 28 Nm (250 inch lbs.). Drop the car, place the EGR tube with new gaskets and tighten the screws to 11 Nm (95 inch lbs.), put back the O-ring on the hose before reattaching the air inlet for the throttle body and air cleaner housing and finally reconnect the negative cable on the battery.
