Run the engine until the oil in the transmission gets warm first, before servicing the fluid and filter. After that, lift and uphold the vehicle. After loosening five bolts and four retainers holding onto the oil pan, you can take the oil pan out as well as the original gasket. When servicing and repairing the automatic transmission 42RLE, nothing but Mopar ATF+4 should be added to the transmission sump, a filter change should take place and use a clean dry cloth to thoroughly clean the magnet in the oil pan. When you disassemble the drive system, both the fluid and filter have to be replaced. Lift the vehicle using a hoist and then put a drain container underneath the transmission oil pan. Unlike the other bolts, one of the oil pan bolts has a factory patch that you can separate and reuse. Loose the holding bolts and shake one part of the pan to cause the fluid to drain into the pan before you take the oil pan out. Set a new filter and O-ring onto the bottom of the valve body, but ensure to tighten the retaining screws to just 5 Nm (40 inch lbs.). Supply the sealing patch on the bolt with Mopar Lock & Seal Adhesive before inserting the bolt into its correct hole. Clear the oil pan and magnet, install a new layer of Mopar Silicone Adhesive around the pan and tighten oil pan bolts to 19 Nm (165 inch lbs.). Place four quarts of Mopar ATF+4 into the engine by pouring through the dipstick, turn on the car and let it run while idling for no less than one minute. After turning on your parking and service brakes, slightly cycle the selector lever by moving it up or down through every slot and end up in park or neutral. Inspect the fluid and add some to have it hovering at 3 mm (1/8 inch) above the bottom mark on the dipstick. After the transmission is up to temperature (180 degrees Fahrenheit), pull out the dipstick and make sure it is placed all the way in before checking the fluid to stop dust from getting inside.
