Before operating on the cable, make sure the transmission is in Park and also raise the vehicle to the floor. Release the end of the gearshift cable from the transmission manual shift lever and pull the cable from its bracket. Reduce the jack supports and, if needed, remove the floor console to expose the shift mechanism and the cables. Should you need to, get rid of the bolts that cover the gearshift and park lock cables and remove the shield from the assembly. Pull off the gearshift cable from the pin on the shift lever and remove the retaining piece from the notch inside the shifter assembly. From in front of the engine, disconnect the shift cable grommet from the dash panel, then pull the gearshift cable out of the vehicle. To install, pass the gearshift cable from the dash under the panel to the shifter assembly and attach the grommet to the dash. Place the gearshift cable retainer into the notch of the shifter assembly and put the gearshift cable onto the shift lever pin. Should it be stiff, loosen the cable adjustment nut a bit. Hold up the vehicle, check that the shaft is in Neutral and try to turn the propeller shaft; if it does, pull the manual shift lever fully back, turning the shaft until the Park setting is active. Feed the gearshift cable through the mounting bracket and loop the cable eyelet onto the transmission manual shift lever. Reduce the car onto the ground and confirm that the shifter is located in the Park position. Turn the adjustment nut to 30 Nm (265 inch lbs.) and see if your shifter shifts properly. If you have to, reattach the shield covering the cables and set it into position with bolts. After that, reinstall the dash console, remove any lower panel pieces and insulate the dash with the pad as needed.
