How to Remove and Install a Steering Column Cover on Jeep Cherokee?

The steering column opening cover should only be removed after the air bag system is disabled. To do this, disconnect and keep the battery's negative cable isolated from the battery post for two minutes. If the car has one, set the steering column to its highest position if it is adjustable. Take out the three screws connecting the low end of the steering column opening cover to the re-enforced area below the instrument panel. Take a trim stick or other similar flat tool and pry gently just underneath the cluster bezel, along the upper edge of the steering column opening cover, to unsnap the two retainers in the panel. Slide the steering column opening cover onto the instrument panel and attach each snap clip retainer at the top to its socket in the panel. Press hard over the snap clip placement on the cover until you feel each snap clip snap into its spot. Secure the three screws located under the cover to the lower part of the instrument panel, tightening each to 2.2 N.m (20 in.lbs.) and plug the negative battery cable back in last.
